Hiring Professional
Mosquito Control

It’s hard to lump every professional mosquito or pest control operation into one explanation. Every company’s process may differ, but generally a professional team begins by evaluating your outdoor property.

They may identify a few things (and some may not):
Current mosquito activity
Shady spots where mosquitoes may rest
Other areas for breeding like standing water
Outdoor Property
These teams often spray insecticides or other repellents once they finish the evaluation. These chemicals might be similar to naturally-occurring substances.

They might involve heavier manufacturing to last longer or kill bugs more efficiently.
The Mosquito Process
Pesticides are often serious chemicals with varying dry times. You’ll want to make sure you’re available for the initial evaluation and prepare your home for when they spray.
Depending on the company, the dry time, and where they spray, preparation may require clearing your yard of objects as well as staying inside after the application.
Backyard Garden
The team you hire will hopefully have a timeline for you to reference.
Certain chemicals may require different amounts of time to apply and sit.
Quality Mosquito Control
Scratching Mosquito Bite
The barometer for mosquito control quality is that you see less mosquitoes. That seems pretty simple.
But for how long? Spraying an insecticide on the lawn may kill these insects in the blast but fail to keep them out long-term.
The mosquito season varies by your region.
In the upper Midwest, it typically runs from May through September, whereas it may be year-round in more warm, humid areas.
Are you getting quality service if a professional team only comes out once a month? No. Monthly applications simply don’t do enough.

If your professional team sprays to kill but fails to repel, you will still see mosquitoes. If your professional team sprays to repel but fails to kill, you will also still see mosquitoes. Trial and error with a professional team you do not know can get expensive.
Family Picnic
Quality Mosquito Control
To learn as much as possible, here are a series of questions you can ask a prospective pest control company:
Is their service specific to mosquitoes or is it more general pest control?
How long does a session take?
Do we have to leave our home during the treatment process?
How long before we can be outside in the yard?
What is the cost of mosquito control for the year?
How many sessions does it take to see results?
With these answers in hand, you’ll be able to compare professional services and make a sound decision for your family.

However, that probably sounds like a lot of phone calls, a lot of research, and a lot of comparison.

When Is Tick Season the Worst?

Many homeowners notice the same pattern every year: tick activity seems to increase once the weather warms up and people start spending more time outside. While ticks can be active during multiple parts of the year, certain seasons usually create heavier tick

Can Ticks Survive in Short Grass?

Many homeowners assume ticks only survive in tall grass and heavily wooded areas. Keeping the lawn short does help reduce tick-friendly conditions, but it does not completely remove the risk. Ticks can still remain active around maintained yards when the

Why Mosquitoes Are Worse in Some Neighborhoods Than Others

Some neighborhoods naturally deal with more mosquito activity than others. It is not always because one homeowner is doing something wrong. Mosquito pressure is often shaped by drainage, shade, standing water, nearby woods, retention ponds, and how easily
