Our Story

Hi, my name’s Ben Havens and I’m the owner of Mosquito Shield of Central Pennsylvania.

At Mosquito Shield of Central PA, our goal is to provide the best residential mosquito control service with the highest levels of customer service, allowing our customers to enjoy their yards, homes, and time with family to the fullest.

The most exciting thing about our service is how well it works. It’s science, not magic, but there is an immediate substantial impact after our first service, and once we have established a property, the change is impressive and undeniable. In many families, there are one or two people who get the majority of mosquito bites, and our treatment is the great equalizer – allowing everyone to participate in spending time together in their outdoor spaces.

Our values include honesty – do what we say, when we say, for the price we say. Communication is also key for us – we over communicate in a clear and concise way so there are no surprises. One of our passions is enjoying the outdoors. We want to enable everyone to enjoy spending more time outside.

My wife and I love the outdoors, and as a family, we eat our meals outside whenever the weather allows. Mosquito Shield has made that so much easier and allows us to extend our evenings outside with the family. 

I started my business to share that with my community. I want to provide top-level service so that people can rely on their outdoor spaces for their family and for entertaining company.

I live in Carlisle, PA with my wife, Erin, and 2 kids, Kendrick & Eleanor. We are active and outdoorsy people who spend most weekends camping and hiking when the weather allows. 

I currently own and operate a design/build remodeling firm which I will maintain ownership of but reduce my time there to one to two days per week. 

I first moved to Central PA in 2008 to work with at-risk youth. 13 years later, I am still there but am now married and have changed my career trajectories significantly. 

Having already built one company in the area, I know that I have the contacts to make a successful Mosquito Shield franchise here in Central, PA and look forward to serving the community in a new way through effective mosquito and tick control services.

This is my second business. I own a successful remodeling company in my area. I started Mosquito Shield of Central PA in order to spread high-quality mosquito control to my community. I saw a need and found that Mosquito Shield has an excellent ability to meet that need.

I was broke in college and needed to find a way to pay my rent, so along with working two jobs I started my own small eBay business in which I would purchase damaged digital cameras, repair/refurbish them, and re-sell them. Not only did this pay my rent for two years, but I got my first taste of what it meant to run a business. 

I have been doing it ever since in one capacity or another, and I’d like to think I’ve come a long way. This year my high-end remodeling business is on track to do 3.5M in revenue. 

One of my favorite local restaurants is Mt. Fuji, which has some of the best sushi I’ve found anywhere! They are only 10 minutes from my house and since the pandemic set in they bring it home at least once a month. 

My favorite local place to visit would be The Appalachian trail, which is only a few miles from my house. They like to get the dog loaded into the van with them and head over there to hike for an hour or two whenever possible. It’s a great way to get outdoors, get exercise, and enjoy being together as a family.

I have been a business owner for over 10 years, and I understand how important it is to provide excellent service to my customers. Mosquito Shield of Central PA is also licensed through the state of PA.

I have a family – wife, two kids (2 and 7), and a dog. We spend a lot of time outdoors hiking on local trails and also go camping a lot all over PA and in national parks too. Last summer we built a treehouse and zipline in our yard, so we’re out there all the time!

I pride myself on strong communication, honesty, and customer service. We are small enough that the owner knows who every customer is but growing quickly because our service exceeds expectations.

I am also excited about building a large recurring customer base–in remodeling we have some repeat customers but for the most part, you get one large project from a customer and then they are only a referral source from that point on. Additionally, there is almost nobody in this Central, PA area treating mosquitoes and ticks, and it is desperately needed.

We provide a satisfaction guarantee to our customers. If the service is not effective, we will come back for a re-service, and there’s never a charge for that. If you are unsatisfied within the first three weeks of starting service, we will refund your money – after that, we will refund a prorated amount.
