This past winter’s heavy snowfall across the Midwest means we’re likely heading into a bigger mosquito season this spring around the Indianapolis area. When that deep snowpack melts, it creates abundant standing water in yards, low-lying areas, and natural depressions — the exact kind of habitat where mosquito eggs and larvae thrive once temperatures rise. Mosquito eggs laid in fall can survive the winter dormant and hatch as soon as water warms, and the extra moisture from snowmelt gives them more opportunities to multiply quickly. With more water and ideal breeding conditions, homeowners should be ready for a potentially larger mosquito population when spring arrives.
In addition to mosquitoes, Central Indiana homeowners should also be prepared for an increase in tick activity this spring. Ticks thrive in moist environments and wooded or grassy areas, and the lingering moisture from snowmelt can create favorable conditions for them to emerge in greater numbers. This is especially concerning because ticks can carry serious tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and other infections that pose risks to both people and pets. Since tick bites are often painless and can go unnoticed, early prevention is key to keeping your family safe while enjoying the outdoors.
High mosquito pressure: Treatments every 10–12 days.
Average mosquito pressure: Treatments every two weeks.
Low mosquito pressure: Treatments every 17–18 days.
While the total number of treatments depends on weather conditions and mosquito populations, we typically provide 10–12 treatments over the course of a season.Mosquito harborage areas – Cool, dark, and damp spots such as under decks, sheds, in plants, or evergreens.
High-traffic areas – Spaces where you and your family spend time, like patios, fire pits, or play areas.
Standing water – Any locations that may encourage mosquito breeding.
After the treatment, your technician will document any issues they found and email you a detailed service report. Once the treatment dries (typically 15–20 minutes), your yard is ready to be enjoyed again.
