The weather in Washington and Ozaukee Counties, Wisconsin, plays a major role in seasonal mosquito and tick activity. Warm, humid summers—especially following heavy rains—create ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes, as standing water often collects in yards, ditches, and low-lying areas. Ticks are most active in the spring and fall, when moderate temperatures and lush vegetation provide the perfect environment for them to thrive. While winters in southeastern Wisconsin are cold enough to reduce pest activity, occasional mild spells and early thaws can extend the mosquito season, making ongoing pest management important throughout much of the year.
Key Factors Influencing Pest Activity:
Mosquitoes and Proximity to Natural Features: Parks, rivers, creeks, and wetlands throughout Washington and Ozaukee Counties contribute to increased mosquito populations during the warmer months.
Ticks and Dense Vegetation: Wooded areas, tall grass, and shaded landscapes near homes and recreational spaces create favorable habitats for ticks, particularly in spring and fall.
High mosquito pressure: Treatments every 10–12 days.
Average mosquito pressure: Treatments every two weeks.
Low mosquito pressure: Treatments every 17–18 days.
While the total number of treatments depends on weather conditions and mosquito populations, we typically provide 10–12 treatments over the course of a season.Mosquito harborage areas – Cool, dark, and damp spots such as under decks, sheds, in plants, or evergreens.
High-traffic areas – Spaces where you and your family spend time, like patios, fire pits, or play areas.
Standing water – Any locations that may encourage mosquito breeding.
After the treatment, your technician will document any issues they found and email you a detailed service report. Once the treatment dries (typically 15–20 minutes), your yard is ready to be enjoyed again. We always strive to keep your treatment on the scheduled day, however, if the weather requires us to reschedule, your treatment will be moved to the next work day.
After-service notification – Your technician will email you a detailed service report after your treatment.
Yard signs – White and red landscape signs will be posted in your yard as a visual indicator.
GPS tracking – We use a GPS tracking system that records the path of your treatment.
If you ever have questions, we can provide this information for your peace of mind. We achieve this by identifying and eliminating sources of standing water and treating areas where water cannot be removed to stop mosquito larvae from developing. If work is being done outside your home, we cannot treat while workers are present. In some cases, we can coordinate with the workers to take a 30-minute break, allowing us time to treat your yard and let the product dry before they return.
If this isn’t possible, we will skip your treatment for that day. We’ll do our best to return within the next day or two. Otherwise, your service will resume on your next scheduled treatment date.
