Frequently Asked Questions for Mosquito Shield of North Central NJ

General Service Questions

When do you start treating for mosquitoes?
Our mosquito treatments begin when the weather warms up, and mosquitoes start breeding. Typically, this occurs in early to mid-May, depending on seasonal conditions. Starting treatments early helps prevent mosquito populations from establishing in your yard.
How many treatments are there in a season?
The number of treatments varies because we use a flexible schedule based on weather conditions and mosquito activity. Our approach ensures effective control by adjusting the timing of treatments to meet the needs of the season:

High mosquito pressure: Treatments every 10–12 days.

Average mosquito pressure: Treatments every two weeks.

Low mosquito pressure: Treatments every 17–18 days.

While the total number of treatments depends on weather conditions and mosquito populations, we typically provide 10–12 treatments over the course of a season.
When do you stop treating for mosquitoes?
Similar to the start of the season, we stop treating based on the weather and mosquito population in our area. Typically, this occurs in late September or early October as the weather cools down and mosquito activity decreases. However, if you experience high mosquito activity after we’ve concluded our regular routes, we’re always on call to assist.
How does the Satisfaction Guarantee work?
We stand by the effectiveness of our treatments and are committed to your satisfaction. If you experience any issues with mosquitoes between scheduled visits, your technician will promptly return to service your yard at no additional cost. This guarantee ensures you receive the best results throughout your season-long service.
How does the 7-day money-back guarantee work?
Your satisfaction is our priority. If you’re not happy with our services, let us know, and we’ll work hard to make it right, including offering a free service call if needed. If you’re still unsatisfied with the results after the first visit, simply notify us within 7 days, and we will issue you a full refund.
What happens on my first visit?
Your expertly trained technician will conduct a thorough walkthrough of your yard. If you’re home, they’ll invite you to walk the property with them so you can highlight areas where your family spends time, as well as any spots with standing water or high mosquito activity. The technician will then treat your property, focusing on three key areas:

Mosquito harborage areas – Cool, dark, and damp spots such as under decks, sheds, in plants, or evergreens.

High-traffic areas – Spaces where you and your family spend time, like patios, fire pits, or play areas.

Standing water – Any locations that may encourage mosquito breeding.

After the treatment, your technician will document any issues they found and email you a detailed service report. Once the treatment dries (typically 15–20 minutes), your yard is ready to be enjoyed again.
What if we are having people over?
If you’re hosting an event or gathering, let us know, and we’ll schedule one of your treatments before the event to ensure your yard is comfortable and worry-free. Please provide at least one week’s notice so we can accommodate your request.

Scheduling and Notifications

Do I need to be home for the treatment?
No, you do not need to be home for the treatments. If your yard is gated and requires a code for access, please provide it in advance so our technician can treat your yard without any issues.
How will I know you are coming?
You’ll receive an email and text notification the day before your treatment, letting you know you’re scheduled for the following day. On the day of your treatment, you’ll also receive a text notification when your technician is en route to your home, giving you a few minutes to prepare before they arrive.
What time will you be coming?
Your technician will send you a text message when they are en route to your home, giving you a few minutes to prepare if you’re home at that time. While it’s difficult to provide an exact time for your treatment, having flexibility in our schedule often allows us to offer same-day service to new customers and the ability to quickly return to assist customers who need a service call.
How far in advance do I need to book my service?
In many cases, we can provide service the same or next day. However, availability may be limited, especially around holiday weekends. To ensure your preferred timing, it’s always best to schedule at least one week in advance.
What happens if it rains on my scheduled treatment day?
We can still treat on rainy days as long as the product has at least one hour to dry before the rain begins. Similarly, we can treat after it rains, provided the product has at least one hour to dry before another rain shower.

We always strive to keep your treatment on the scheduled day, however, if the weather requires us to reschedule, your treatment will be moved to the next work day.

If I am not home, how will I know that you treated?
There are a few ways to know that we’ve treated your property:

After-service notification – Your technician will email you a detailed service report after your treatment.

Yard signs – White and red landscape signs will be posted in your yard as a visual indicator.

GPS tracking – We use a GPS tracking system that records the path of your treatment.

If you ever have questions, we can provide this information for your peace of mind. We achieve this by identifying and eliminating sources of standing water and treating areas where water cannot be removed to stop mosquito larvae from developing.

Preparations and Precautions

Do I need to do anything to prepare my yard before a treatment?
There’s no specific preparation required before your treatment. However, some customers bring in their children’s or pets’ toys and water bowls as an extra precaution. Additionally, please ensure we have access to your yard. If there’s a gate code needed to unlock it, let us know in advance.
What about kids or pets?
We ask that kids and pets stay indoors during the treatment, which typically takes 5–8 minutes. After the treatment, wait 15–20 minutes for the product to dry before allowing them back into the yard. Once dry, the yard is ready to be enjoyed by everyone.
How long should we stay out of the yard?
We ask everyone to stay indoors during the treatment, which is quick and typically takes 5–8 minutes. Once the product has dried—usually within 15–20 minutes—you’re welcome to start using your yard again.
How long should I wait after a treatment before cutting my lawn?
You can mow your lawn at any time after the treatment, as long as you wait for the product to dry. This typically takes 15–20 minutes.

Effectiveness and Maintenance

How soon will I see results after the first treatment?
You’ll notice a reduction in mosquitoes right away. During your first application, your technician will include a product with a quick knockdown effect. Peak results typically occur within 48 hours, providing noticeable relief from mosquitoes.
Does the service prevent mosquitoes from breeding in my yard?
Yes, our service takes a holistic approach to mosquito control. We not only eliminate existing mosquitoes but also prevent them from breeding. This is achieved by identifying and eliminating sources of standing water wherever possible and treating any remaining water areas that can’t be removed.
Do I need to do anything to maintain the effectiveness of the treatments?
To maximize the effectiveness of your treatments, we recommend partnering with us to eliminate any standing water in your yard. While your technician will do their best to identify, treat or remove standing water, maintaining a clean and well-kept yard is the best way to support long-lasting results.
What if I still see mosquitoes after a treatment?
Let us know! Any information you can provide will help us uncover the source of the mosquitoes and address the issue. Here are some helpful questions you can consider sharing with us:

Are there areas in your yard with standing water that may have been overlooked?

Are you noticing more mosquitoes at specific times of the day or in certain parts of your yard?

Have there been any recent changes to your property, such as new landscaping or water features?

We’ll work with you to resolve the issue and ensure your yard remains enjoyable.
